Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is an entirely new analytics tool from the current Google Universal Analytics. It has a new data model, different tracking points, different metrics, and different reports.

You can’t migrate data from your existing Google Analytics to the new one, data has to be gathered by the new tracking code. So, Google wants users to have dual Google Analytics accounts (dual tag your website) and for websites to begin collecting information in GA4.

All NEW websites that load Google Analytics will get the GA4 version by default.

What are the biggest differences between the existing Google Analytic and GA4?

Events tracked automatically include:
The first time someone visits your website.
The page the user is viewing.
When the user’s session started.
User Engagement is collected periodically when someone has spent at least 10 seconds on your website.

Enhanced Measurement lets you automatically track one or more of the following events:
Scrolls for people scrolling at least 90% of a page.
Outbound clicks from your website to other websites.
Keywords entered into your website’s search function.
Engagement of people watching embedded YouTube videos.
Files downloads for people downloading files from your website.
